Lufthansa, who already operate non-stop routes to Sao Paulo from both Frankfurt and Munich, are expanding further into South America with a great new direct flight to Rio de Janeiro, arguably Brazil’s most famous city and certainly the one that tourists want to get to. The route will start on 31st October and Lufthansa are to operate it 5 times a week flying an Airbus A340 with a capacity of 220. Hopefully this extra competition to Rio will stimulate more direct flights to Rio from the UK.
In other Brazil-related flight news, TAP, the Portuguese carrier, are to open a new non-stop route between Lisbon and Porto Alegre to add to their existing direct connections to Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Campinas, Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Recife, Natal and Fortaleza. TAP offers flights out London to all their Brazilian destinations via Lisbon and they are often the cheapest flights available. They have also just announced that they will begin operating flights direct from Manchester to Lisbon in June, great news for those looking for flights to Rio from the north.
